First thing first, what to wear?

If you're planning to attend an outdoor shooting range in Poland, it's important to wear comfortable and practical clothing that's appropriate for the weather conditions. Here are some recommendations:

  1. Dress in layers. Wear clothing that can be easily layered, so you can add or remove layers as needed.

  2. Opt for moisture-wicking materials: When you're active, you're likely to sweat, even in colder temperatures. Look for clothing made from materials that can wick away moisture, such as synthetic blends or wool.

  3. Wear comfortable footwear: You'll be on your feet for extended periods, so it's essential to wear comfortable, supportive footwear. Tactical boots with ankle support and a non-slip sole are a good choice.

For shoes, we recommend getting breathable combat boots, which are above the ankle. These are comfortable to train in on different terrains and offer a bit of ankle support for the movement. Trekking shoes may be good as well.

  4. Use clothing that is easy to move in: You'll be performing various shooting stances, so your clothing should be comfortable and flexible. Avoid tight-fitting clothes that could restrict your movement and instead choose looser, more relaxed-fitting items.

The reason is that we provide realistic training, which includes movement and switching positions. That requires comfortable wear and easy, unrestricted access to holster and ammunition pouches that will be attached to the tactical belt.

  5. Protect your eyes and ears: Safety equipment is crucial on a shooting range, and it's no exception with eye and ear protection. Wear shooting glasses that provide proper eye protection and ear muffs or plugs that can reduce the noise. NOTE that we provide eye and ear protection.

  6. Consider weather-appropriate accessories: In the winter, wear a warm hat or beanie, insulated gloves and socks, and a scarf to keep you warm. In the summer, a baseball cap or hat, and lightweight, breathable socks could help you stay cool.

Remember to check the weather forecast before heading out to the shooting range and pack your clothing accordingly.

Ear and Eye Protection.

For tactical safety equipment, we recommend having battery-powered firearms ear protection, which can greatly reduce firearms noise and still allow you to hear the instructions. For eye protection, we recommend having at least the basic clear shooting glasses, a lot of the better ones do come with additional tinted glasses to change in between, which comes very handy during sunny days, and we do recommend having a tinted pair if the budget allows.

Tactical Gloves?

When it comes to wearing gloves during firearms training, it's important to consider their impact on accuracy and grip. For pistol courses, we generally do not recommend wearing gloves unless you use them on duty. This is because gloves can affect your grip and make it harder to "feel" the firearm, potentially leading to less accuracy and incorrect shooting techniques.

However, on rifle courses and the Combined Firearms Course, we do recommend wearing gloves to protect your hands and improve your grip on rifles and protect your hands against small cuts which may happen during rifle manipulation. If you do choose to wear gloves, we suggest using half-finger gloves to ensure that you can still feel the trigger.

If you must wear gloves, we suggest using thinner materials and avoiding bulky or insulated gloves that might interfere with your grip.

Other tactical equipment.

For any other equipment, we don’t recommend anything further than what was covered, unless the individual trains often/a lot, and would like to have their own tactical kit for firearms training. In that case, we can suggest having your own 1 or 2-point sling for training with rifles, depending on which one is more comfortable to anyone personally, this supports holding the rifles and will be overall easier to carry. Next, we can suggest having your own magazine pouches, and tactical vest, whether to carry armor plates in for a more realistic training feel or to attach/have magazine pouches on it for easy/more convenient access. Finally, a small first aid kit attached to the tactical belt is our final suggestion for anyone preferring to have one / completing their own kit.

Where to buy tactical equipment and clothing?

If you are looking to purchase tactical equipment and clothing, there are a few options available to you. A good starting point is to check out popular online marketplaces such as eBay or Amazon, but it's important to note that some countries may have restrictions on the sale of tactical gear.

You don't need to break the bank on expensive equipment when you're just starting out. It can be a good idea to visit our academy and check out the equipment we have or take a look at what other participants are using. This can give you a better idea of what you might need and what will be useful to you.

If you're unable to find the tactical gear you're looking for on eBay or Amazon, try searching for tactical online shops in your country using a search engine.

To get you started, here is a list of high-quality tactical gear that we recommend and use at BZ Academy. While these items may not be the cheapest options available, they are known for their quality:

  • Tactical Clothing: 5.11, UF PRO, CLAWGEAR, Helikon Tex

  • Shoes: LOWA

  • Tactical Belts: Shooters Factory

  • Gloves: Mechanix

  • Ballistic Vests, Mag Pouches: Direct Action, Helikon Tex

In conclusion, having the right tactical gear can make a significant difference in your firearms training experience. By purchasing the right equipment, you'll be more comfortable, prepared, and confident during the courses. BZ Academy provides some tactical gear during the courses, but it's always a good idea to invest in your equipment to ensure that it fits you and your firearm perfectly. Remember, safety comes first, so make sure to choose gear that's comfortable, durable, and provides adequate protection for your eyes, ears, and hands.
